Applying Sunscreen To Save Your Skin

When you think of sunscreen, do you imagine having lots of it at the beach and smelling coconuts? Well, that may be true and it may be the ultimate smell of the summertime, but for those adventure seeking people in the world, those that go out in any temperature to get their fix of sports, they will need to learn how to properly care for their skin as well.

Sunscreen is not just for the beach or days you go swimming. No, that misconception should be broken right away as there are lots of people that enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, and running outside all year round. It doesn't even have to be sunny outside to actually get sunburn. Many assume it will need to be over seventy degrees, warm and have a very sunny day to get any damage from the sun and that is simply untrue. You can get sunburn in less than one hour on your skin, even when it is cloudy outside.

Learning about how to care for your skin the right way has to start at home before you leave the building. Dermatologists have made note of exactly what precautions need to be made when saving your skin from any danger. There must be ample time between the time that you apply the sunscreen to when you actually go outside to do other activities. This time frame is usually around thirty minutes before you go outside. Then you will be okay to do any activities outside and not have to worry yourself of becoming burnt.

The time allotted before going outside is to ensure that your skin has absorbed the lotions or sprays before you have clothing on that can rub it off, or begin sweating and it runs off. Whether you choose to use a spray sunscreen or a lotion is ultimately up to you. Sprays seem to be more effective for those that are going to be doing any serious physical activity, while lotions are good for those going to sit or stand in the sun. Ensure that you are applying it well and get all of the areas that may need attention that most people tend to forget. The ears for one always get burnt so start there, the neck, the neck of the neck, your face, both hands and your feet will help to avoid any discrepancies. Try to get dressed well after you have applied your sunscreen such as at least fifteen minutes before hand. The same rules should be followed for little ones also, so avoid them having to cope with sunburn in the event that you take them on any outdoor adventures.

Sunscreen is essential. Even to a woman of color like me. Many people I think are under the impression that black people do not need or use sunscreen. Nothing can be further from the truth. I would like to stay looking brown and not so much black. ;)

Lol, that is funny. I honestly had never thought about it, but it does make sense (wanting to stay brown).
